Master Your Inbox Timing: Delay Email Delivery in Outlook
Take control of your email timing with scheduled sends in Microsoft Outlook
Have you ever wondered if you can send an email but not have it arrive in the recipients inbox until a specific time? Sometimes, timing is everything. With Outlook’s Delay Delivery feature, you can do exactly that - schedule emails while delaying the delivery time—ensuring your message lands with the recipient at the perfect moment. This feature is ideal for managing time zones, avoiding late-night emails, or simply planning ahead.
The Delay Delivery feature can be a really useful tool to help you:
Ensure your email reaches the recipient during their working hours.
Draft and schedule messages for future delivery, so you don’t forget.
Avoid sending emails at odd hours that might seem unprofessional.
How to use the Delay Delivery feature
Open Outlook and Click "New Email" to open the message window. In the message window, navigate to the "Options" tab. Click on "Delay Delivery" in the "More Options" section.
A pop-up will appear, on the pop-up window, tick the box for "Do not deliver before." And choose your desired date and time you would like the email to be delivered to the recipients inbox.
Click "Close" on the pop up to save the settings, then hit "Send." Your email will remain in the Outbox until the scheduled time.
A few things to note
You can edit or delete the email from the Outbox before the scheduled time.
If you’re delaying delivery using Outlook for the desktop, Outlook must be open for the email to send. In Outlook Web, emails will send as scheduled regardless.
At the moment, Outlook does not have a built-in feature for recurring scheduled emails, but you can use third-party add-ins for this functionality.
By mastering the Delay Delivery feature in Outlook, you’ll gain control over your email timing and enhance your communication strategy.
